Description


Lors de sa huitième et dernière expédition polaire, Robert Peary a assuré avoir mener la première expédition qui a atteint le Pôle Nord le 6 avril 1909. Mais ses dires ont été longtemps mis en doute. Dès qu'il est rentré, une polémique est née avec Frederick Cook qui affirmait qu'il était le premier a avoir atteint le Pôle Nord, le 21 avril 1908. Finalement le Congrès américain a tranché en 1911 en affirmant que c'était Peary qui avait été le premier.
