The Norwegian explorer and scientist Fridtjof Nansen led the expedition that made the first successful crossing of Greenland's interior in 1888. Finding themselves cut off from the rest of the world for the winter, Nansen and his team spent several months with the Greenlandic Inuit. Even if he admits that it was a too short time to have reached a thorough knowledge on the Inuits, he collected all his observations in this book.
