Karen Blixen, also known as Isak Dinesen, tells the story of Babette, a French woman who came into exile in Norway after the Commune in Paris. After fifteen years of service, Babette won ten thousand francs thanks to the French lottery. She asks her superiors, two austere sisters, to let her prepare a gourmet dinner in the purest French tradition, and far from the ascetic life that the sisters lead. For her eleven guests, Babette is ready to spend all her fortune.
